Cincinnati Metro to Celebrate ‘Ohio Loves Transit Week’
February 7, 2025

CINCINNATI — In celebration of “Ohio Loves Transit Week” from February 9-15, Cincinnati Metro will participate alongside the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA) and transit networks statewide to highlight the impact transit plays in the daily lives of their riders.
Ohio’s transit systems provide nearly 71 million trips each year — with Cincinnati Metro contributing 13.6 million rides to that total in 2024. In the Cincinnati region and beyond, this ability to provide accessible transportation plays a vital role in the economy. With statistics indicating that each $1 invested in transit yielding a $4 economic return, investing in transit strengthens every segment of Ohio. Businesses, communities, individuals, and families – everyone benefits from public transportation, an essential service that enhances economic development, ensures sustainable lifestyles and a higher quality of life.
“This past year marked the halfway point of the Reinventing Metro plan, and we’re proud to continue delivering on the promises of Issue 7,” said Brandy Jones, Metro’s Chief Communications and Marketing Officer. “With each step forward, we are enhancing the rider experience and strengthening the vitality of our entire community.”
In the past two years, 30% of Metro’s riders were first-time users, demonstrating the success of new services and enhancements in drawing in new passengers. Notably, ridership continues to outpace peers, with Metro reaching 117% of pre-pandemic ridership—well above the national average of 70-80%.
To thank existing riders and encourage new riders to give Metro a try, Metro will hand out a limited number of free ride tickets at noon on Thursday, Feb. 13, at Government Square and Fountain Square.
Riders of Metro are encouraged to share on social media how public transit impacts their lives using the hashtag #OhioLovesTransit.
